I turned 50 in March of this year, 2020, and I had never conceived that I completely lacked a mind's eye.
My second first day back at CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike was great!
I really enjoyed my second first ride. While yesterday was my first first ride back, I didn't reach any flow. It was just a shakedown. Yesterday's was more fun. I felt back at home. And, I stayed within my Maffetone range of 105-115bpm 90% of the time.
On my first day back at CYCLEBAR
Even though I am not really following along with the class's program or the sprints and grinds and up off the seat and down on the seat HIIT system, being in a class and having a trainer and being committed to not farting around at all during the 45-60-minutes the class takes place, makes it all worth it for me.
Just committed to at least a month of riding at Cyclebar Columbia Pike
I just committed an unlimited month, starting tomorrow, and aim to continue into the future.
Maffetone is the perfect addition to Slow Jogging
Neither Slow Jogging nor The Maffetone Method care very much about winning races or about making world records, they both care more about health than fitness, more about a the long run of a lifetime of activeness over the short burst of achievement.
Slow Jogging and MAF Training are sibling training strategies
Slow Jogging is a form of exercise slower than jogging, and perhaps slower than the average walking speed.
The Ginger Runner Ethan Newberry will always be my first
Before there was Edd Bud, Seth James DeMoor, Jamison Michael, or even Kofuzi, there was the Ginger Runner, Ethan Newberry.
My slow but acceptable Concept2 Dog Days of Summer Challenge progress
Each week, the Concept2 Dog Days of Summer Challenge requires 10,000 meters more per each subsequent week through the month of August: week 1: 10,000 meters, week 2, 20,000 meters, weeks 3 (this week, 4285.71 meters-per-day) 30,000 meters, and next week, week 4, 40,000 meters, which is 5,714.28 meters-per-day.
Elite Jogging Vlogger Jamison Michael has a pretty posse on Jami's Review
Jamison Michael is a charming so and so and is one of the most influential running shoe vloggers out there.
Noraly Schoenmaker returns in season 3 of Itchy Boots on YouTube
Noraly AKA Itchy Boots is my favorite person on planet earth and she's back for season three of her video travelogue today!
Kofuzi AKA Michael Ko made me proud to be a non elite runner
Michael Ko, AKA Kofuzi, is the coolest kid. He's a self-descrived non-elite YouTube running and running shoe review blogger. And he's super-cool. He makes anything look cool: running, being a dad, living in Chicago, and even running through cornfields when he's hanging out with his inlaws.
I've joined the cult of British non elite runner and shoe-reviewer Edd Bud
I discovered Edd Bud, the Beast, his torpedo feet and slight frame via Kofuzi; though, Ed Budd stands alone, from his charming kindness to his cheeky bugger to his Musical Interludes. Yes, he also runs and reviews running shoes.
My favorite running vlogger is Seth James DeMoor
Every day, Seth James DeMoor publishes his daily vlog on YouTube at 7AM my time and every day I am there to watch it at 7:02 AM.
My best gym and workout towels are from NIcool Sports
I am always on the lookout for the world's best towels. It's probably because of my devotion to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy—Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is—but it's my White Whale. My White Towel. The NIcool Sports Cycling Towel on Amazon is currently my very favorite gym and workout towel.
Week two of the Dog Days of Summer challenge hosted by Concept2 Logbook
I have been Zwifting, Zwalking, riding, and swinging this Summer. Now, I am adding my Concept2 indoor rower and SkiErg into the mix. Luckily, Concept2 allows you to do this slowly and powerfully with the Dog Days of Summer individual challenge. Better yet, it is compatible with both my erg and my SkiErg. So, I cycle between them, working hard to build my strength, fitness, and endurance.
Sharing notes from growing up haole in Hawaii in the 80s
Long story short: maybe I was excluded from stuff for being haole in Hawaii, though I never really knew and it never bothered me. But, it's interesting to hear that there might have been parties and birthdays and beach outings and get-togethers that I was just never part of. Could that be true? I'll never know.
Have kettlebell, will tote
I don't have a car—thank god—but I like the idea of bringing a kettlebell outside to do some swings, cleans, presses, and snatches.
My Keiser M3 Water Bottle Hack
The Keiser M3 stationary exercise spin bike is form over function and its water bottle function is terrible so I made some changes.
The two-handed kettlebell swing is the backbone of my fitness regime
I got all my swings in this AM and spent them mostly with my 20kg kettlebell.
I am going to add some calisthenics to the kettlebell swing mix
I am really loving my two-handed, heavy-kettlebell, swing routine but I also plan to add some simple Army-style calisthenics to the mix in addition to slow jogging, indoor cycling, and indoor rowing.
Making myself swing heavier through light kettlebell deletion
I pulled my 12kg and 16kg kettlebells from my daily two-handed swing lineup because I don't want the temptation to swing light.
Today I will be an indoor cat as temperatures in DC will top 100F
Someone on Facebook made fun of me because I am obsessed with urban hiking, something I never thought to call it. But it's true. And I pride myself on my ability to weather the heat and humidity of the mid-Atlantic; however, today I will do all my work and my workouts safely cocooned in my air-conditioned little studio.
I'm a total swinger!
I am doing two-handed kettlebell swings exclusively these days. While I started only a few days ago, I feel like it's both sustainable and enjoyable.
Exercises I am adding to my daily workouts in addition to daily two-handed kettlebell swings
In addition to burning out my posterior chain with daily morning two-handed kettlebell swings, I want to spend my evenings on an erg, on a bike, or slow jogging on the road for at least an hour every evening, even if it's while watching bad TV and movies.
Just swinging seems to be working because I am the only barrier to swinging my kettlebells
I am my own worst enemy—ask anyone! This is only day two, but I think I sorted out how I, Chris Abraham, will habituated a daily regimine of kettlebell swings.
I had been letting tech and logging get in the way of my kettlebell swings
It turns out that one needn't keep track of how many swings you make, how heavy they are, or how often—especially if it gets in the way of swinging the kettlebell
Roger Wolfson: The Gym No Matter What
TL:DR: "Always go to the gym, no matter what. If you decide to hit the happy hours after work and get loaded on apps and drinks, it's especially important that you make it to the gym. Your workout might be garbage but you get to keep your habit, your commitment, and you'll regret having over-indulged immediately as you lift weights and hit the treadmill. First Slow Jog in Years
I’m finally up to speed to actually start my slow jogging. I had only been walking until now. Just making sure I was fit enough and ready.
On discovering I am an aphant with aphantasia at 50 years old
Until now, I had always believed that the mind's eye was figurative. I've always had vivid dreams but when I close my eyes, my head goes dark. The only sounds I ever hear in my head are through my ears and the only waking visions I have come through my eyes. Counting sheep before bed is 100% counting and 0% sheep.
I have been working remotely full time since the Fall of 2006
During that first try, it was simple because we were just following the ethos of the open-source programming community. Even then, way before offshoring was popular, naturally insular and introverted programmers and developers would collaborate together across timezones, cultures, languages, and even languages (English, is very honestly,m the world's pidgin, the world's patois).
