My One Burrito a Day (OBAD) One Meal a Day (OMAD) Diet
For a couple weeks now, I have been following the one meal a day—OMAD—diet. I am trying it out because after reading about and trying the keto diet, which is very prescriptive, I wanted something easy that amalgamates intermittent fasting, one very satisfying meal that fulfills all the calories I need for a day that actually satiates me, and no food to cheat with in my fridge, cupboard, or larder.

Trying one meal a day—OMAD
If you go down the Keto diet rabbit hole, you'll end up reading about IF—intermittant fasting; and, if you spend enough time on reddit, you'll eventually discover the OMAD subreddit: One Meal A Day. It's simple: eat like a king once-a-day, somewhere between 4pm and 8pm, but only for an hour. Then, stop eating for the next 23-hours.

Do two solid 19:5 days make a trend?
I've been trying for years to get my IF (intermittent fast) 19:5 (nineteen-hours fasting per-day and five-hours for eating, per-day) sorted and it looks like I've finally convinced my actual self to actually do it. I know it's only for two days! But I've done a lot with two successful days in a row. And each day is a restricted 1,500 low carb day, too.

From one burrito-a-day to one bowl-a-day in my one meal-a-day diet
tl;dr: OBAD once meant, to me, one burrito-a-day but now it means one bowl-a-day. My 24:.25 daily intermittent fasting eating window from the early afternoon to first thing in the morning. My one bowl-a-day is a big bowl at 48oz-a-day. Here's what I prepare and eat.

Weight's not melting—but it's coming—off on the OBAD OMAD
I took my weight this AM after my morning "rituals" but before drinking any water or coffee. Here's what my Wi-Fi Withings scale shared with my 44.3k Twitter followers.

One-Meal-a-Day (OMAD) with a Preference for IF and OBAD
Things are going better with the diet. I refuse to keep any food in the house. I am even tempted to dump my stone-ground grits and my stone-ground oats—including yummy, yummy, bars of butter.

Maybe it's the wheat, maybe it's the gluten, maybe it's the carbs, possibly the portion, maybe the sodium, could be the fat
Last night sucked. Yesterday, I made a heaping portion of Angel Hair Pasta with store-bought Ragu Alfredo sauce and a bunch of chopped store-bought sliced honey ham and made it into a giant happy vat of lunch—all because I really wanted to eat noodles with a mug full of disposable wooden chopsticks that remind me of growing up in Hawaii.

My dirty OMAD
tl;dr: my intermittent fasting golden ticket is a one-meal-a-day framework that doesn’t chase making calories or macros. Sometimes my daily calories will be 800 and sometimes 2,000, and that’s OK.
