I own a Concept2 Indoor Rower that collects too much dust. As part of my intentional movement towards fitness and health I will be participating in the Dog Days of Summer challenge this year.

The Dog Days of Summer runs from August 1–28 and features a different total distance goal each week.

I feel pretty confident that it'll go smoothly as it's sort of a milk run. Back when I was doing my meters for Team Grotto, my every day consisted of an easy 10,000 meter row. In fact, I will try to make sure I do 10,000 meters every day, once-a-day, anyway, using the Concept2 Dog Days of Summer challenge as the impetus.

This week, it's one 10k meter row, next week it's 20k, the week after that, 30k, and then finally 40 in the last week, which should only take three or four days to do, if I am really lazy.

What I am happy about, though, is that my Concept2 rowing ergometer is begging for my attention more than any other self-torture devices that I own so i am grateful to Concept2 and the indoor rowing community for offering virtual teams and virtual challenges and de facto virtual regattas.

So, here's the 411:

Row or ski, indoors or outdoors, completing each of the following four distance goals during the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:

  • Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 10,000 meters
  • Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 20,000 meters
  • Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 30,000 meters
  • Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 40,000 meters

The distance goals do not have to be done in one sitting, but must be done during the timeframe indicated. By the end of the challenge, you will have accumulated 100,000 meters.

Here are the details over at the Concept2 Logbook and here's the leader board so far.
