Galeria Kaufhof Berlin Alexanderplatz is one of the more famous commercial landmarks in Berlin for the one reason that it was where the rich and powerful members of the GDR’s party bought their fineries, even when people were lining up for hours just to pick up shoes and trousers and were waiting for ten years for a East German Trabant AKA Trabi. This is where the whole some comrades are more equal than others comes from, partially, as Galeria Kaufhof was safely on the Eastern side from 1961-1989.
