I guess we’ll find out!
D.C. Declares Snow Emergency
We haven’t had a snowstorm prediction like this in three years. The Monday morning commute is likely to be extremely messy and the storm’s aftermath could affect afternoon commuting as well.
The National Weather Service is warning that the storm, which is approaching from the south, could bring 6 to 9 inches to the I-95 corridor overnight. See the Capital Weather Gang report.
The entire region is in for it, and road crews in all the jurisdictions are making preparations for a long night of road treating and plowing.
In preparation, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty declared a snow emergency starting at 4 p.m. today. Don’t park where you see the red and white “Snow Emergency Route” signs, or you may get a $250 ticket and a tow. Find a list of D.C. snow emergency routes here. And here’s a map of those routes.
The point of clearing vehicles is to make room for the full deployment of snow equipment scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The District Department of Transportation says it can send out 200 to 350 pieces of equipment, including plows, sprayer trucks and contract plows, if necessary, will be deployed to treat and plow elevated surfaces and roadways, including bridges, overpasses and ramps as well as roadways and residential streets.
