Controversal Comic of the Day from the NY Post

by Chris Abraham on 18/02/2009 ·

It always makes me happy when the news is slow enough that a political comic like the below makes headline news and ends up in controversy, indignant rage (because there actually was a 200 pound chimpanzee in fact recently shot, people):

That said, I can see where someone might believe that this fallen chimp might represent Barack Obama, which of course it doesn’t — because the current stimulus package isn’t Obama’s plan, it is the bastardized version that made its way through Congress and the Senate — the approved, dumbed-down Bill.  The one that was written by a monkey (well, an ape, a primate, a chimp).  Well, that’s my take.  However, I can totally see their point of view, now that I think about it a little more.  I guess I am, in fact, literal and post-race — it never occurred to me.

Definitely racist. The dirty NY Post has been racist for years. They were just waiting for the right time to show their colors again. Perfect timing to…black history month! tisk.tisk..

What if I drew a picture of a comic artist being shot in the chest with the cops saying “now thats funny” because frankly this comic is not. How many people would believe that it would be directed toward that comic artist who made this illustration? Let me guess everybody! This drawing was intended to be a racist connotation towards the president if it is said to be otherwise its just the artist being plan ignorant.

They need to be ashamed, the chief editor should have never passed something of this to be in a paper that millions will read! What are they insane? When BUSH was in office AA wasn’t sending racist messages! AND even if this message wasn’t meant for OBAMA if you are smart you can certainly make an inference and use your visual context clues!!! Now who looks bad?

Remember the controversial situation a few months ago where the Spanish Basketball team made slanty-eyed impressions of Asians?

If you’re unfamiliar with the event, you can read it here: http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/basketball/news/story?id=3532682

The OCA (representing Asians) stated disappointment, but almost everyone in voting polls said it wasn’t a big deal.

Some say the Asians were being too sensitive and that the Spaniards weren’t mocking them. But the very fact that the Spaniards were seen laughing as they did such impressions, implied that they found such looks ‘funny’ or ‘entertaining’. We’ve all been to elementary school, and such impressions were almost always made to insult or tease the poor Asian kid.

Now a similar situation happens to the African-American community (a much larger than the Asian community in the US), and it immediately causes an uproar. Because as we know, there are strength in numbers. The Black community has grown in numbers in the past few decades, so they have some form of political power. But other minorities don’t have that strength, so it is viewed that if we choose to mock them, there’s nothing they can do about it.

This very example proves the discrimination against minorities.
