You should definitely use business networking sites such as Linkedin, Schmoozii, and Xing if you are targeting professionals. Your efforts can be targeted and inexpensive. Members of these sites are professionals that know that can set their contact settings to allow for connections for business deals. But I wouldn't recommend using myspace, facebook, and other more social networks for business. the main reason is the members of these sites are not there for business networking. They are there to meet friends. If you approach the wrong person they will spread they may consider it spam and your contact will be viewed negatively.

I would add watch where your audience goes. That's the socnet you should be on. Heck, asking some of your best customers (or supporters in my case since I do online political marketing) is the best way to learn.
