Death By Chick Lit by Lynn Harris

deathbychicklit Death By Chick Lit by Lynn HarrisLynn Harris boldly popped me an email asking me to mention her new murder mystery novel, Death By Chick Lit. As a favor for Lori Gottlieb. Well, I adore Lori, as you all know, so I agreed. Although I cannot review or endorse the book yet (Lynn is sending me a copy to read), I have to say that Death By Chick Lit has been endorsed by the fetching, witty, and lovely Ms. Gottlieb; and the Huffington Post. Read an excerpt of Death by Chick Lit and then buy a copy from Amazon.

From Publishers Weekly
Chick lit authors become a killer’s target in this loving sendup of the popular genre from journalist Harris (Miss Media). After Mimi McKee, author of Gay Best Friend, has her throat slit with a shard from a broken martini glass, Lola Somerville, a 32-year-old freelance writer living in Brooklyn, determines to unmask the murderer. The investigation could help land Lola a new book deal and boost flat sales of her debut novel, Pink Slip. Is the fiendish killer “Reading Guy,” a 40-something dweeb who stalks chick lit author signings? Or could it be Mimi’s boyfriend, Quentin, a crossword puzzle composer? Then there’s Wilma, the militant leader of the Jane Austen Liberation Front, who has no love for authors of low-brow literature. When not sleuthing or scribbling, Lola gabs on her cellphone to best friend Annabelle and leans on her “geek-hottie” husband, Doug, for support. Readers will down this fizzy “murder-tini” in one gulp. (June)

Book Description
Someone is killing off the competition in the world of chick lit-and the results are “hilarious.” (Andy Borowitz, author of The Borowitz Report: The Big Book of Shockers)

Lola Somerville has a husband and a new apartment in Brooklyn, but what she really wants is for her novel to make a splash. Unfortunately it hasn’t even made a ripple. Then at a book party, Lola finds her author friend Mimi McKee with her throat slashed. When the bodies of It-Girl writers begin to pile up, Lola starts asking dangerous questions: Are the murders connected? Am I next? If not, um, why not? If I solve the mystery, then will my agent remember my name? As Lola digs deeper, the stakes grow higher. Will getting her hands on the killer- and the book deal bound to follow-mean losing the people she loves most?

Lynn Harris Bio
Lynn Harris is an author, essayist, commentator, and award-winning journalist. Her most recent book is the satirical novel Death By Chick Lit, whose prequel, Miss Media, was hailed by New York Magazine as a “sharp, smart satire.”

She is also co-creator—with supergenius Chris Kalb—of the award-winning website BreakupGirl.net, online headquarters of the only superhero who rescues men and women from romantic emergencies.

A standup comic for 10 years (now retired), Lynn also co-wrote and co-starred in the Off-Off Broadway show “Lynn Harris on Ice,” which sold out its run in 2002. She appears frequently at literary readings around New York City.

Lynn lives with her husband David and daughter Bess in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where everyone is a “local author.” A former ice hockey player, native of Lexington, MA, and Yale grad, she now spends her free time gardening, worshipping Dolly Parton, and making legendary guacamole. She suspects that she is the only person in history who completes this trifecta: Daughter of the American Revolution, Friar, rabbi’s wife.

“Readers will down this fizzy ‘murder-tini’ in one gulp.” –Publishers’ Weekly

“A wickedly fun read.” –Glamour

“Harris has a deceptively sweet, light touch with the humor, which makes it all the more fun when you realize she’s landed some pretty solid digs on hipster/yuppie parenting, the mind-boggling aspects of gentrification in New York, and above all, the sexist bent of the publishing industry that treats women—half the human race—as a speciality group.” –Pandagon
