The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon is surely in my top-ten favorite books. I wonder why noone has ever produced it into a movie or miniseries. It is perfect: sex, drugs, rocks and roll, intrigue, danger, conspiracy, lunacy, and the profane; also, it is short and therefore pretty easy to turn into a screenplay.
