Speaking of Faith with Krista Tippet is Essential Listening

krista tippet speaking of faithMuch of my spiritual posts are catalyzed by episodes of Speaking of Faith with Krista Tippet. My experience with TOF was usually mystical as it played late on Sunday night on WETA (no more). Now, I have downloaded all of the episodes as podcasts to my iPod. You should subscribe too, via RSS, Yahoo!, and iTunes.

I have been swallowing this sweet water thirstily. Ms. Tippet makes the show as her questions and tone are neutral and caring. She does lead the religious and spiritual conversation, but she never leads the witness.

This is important stuff and I highly recommend a deep listening. I listen to most over and over, especially The Spirituality of Parenting from 6/15/06, featuring Rabbi Sandy Sasso, who is a true teacher. This is my third listen; they are all great.

SOF is not a Christian show, nor is it Judeo-Christian, SOF is Faithful, exploring Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Taoism, Shintoism, and Christianity and all of its interpretations, etc; what’s more, it looks at spirituality academically, culturally, and through the lenses of the occult, conspiracy, and godlessness.

Speaking of Faith isn’t a disinterested observer. The show is very curious, interested, and if there was an agenda, it would be in healing and finding common ground.

Krista Tippet has the most soothing voice and I will add her to my radio host “crush” list, along with my lifetime crush, Diane Rehm, who is also very passionate, very curious, and very sympathetic. What comes across in both women is a deep love and a deep empathy.

Listen to them all. I never recommend that, but when you get SOF onto your iTunes, download all of the episodes. Each one is timeless and an important facet of the spiritual life.
