My dearest friend Aimee is abroad in Africa these days. Luckily, she is keeping a blog, called Hands Full of Heart Stones: Finding inspiration in the details… where she will be in “Uganda for three months . . . spending [her] first month in a program related to school (working with refugees from Darfur), and the following two months on [her] own working, volunteering and researching.”
I am a month late in sharing this, so be sure that you start her blog from the beginning and follow her experiences…
“Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope that 2007 brings you many dreams fulfilled. I want to share with you that beginning Friday, I will be in Uganda for three months. I will be spending my first month in a program related to school (working with refugees from Darfur), and the following two months on my own working, volunteering and researching. I will have a cell phone there, and be able to check email once in a while, but communication will be inconsistent at best.
Inspired by friends who have gone on similar adventures, I decided to start a blog. It has been a pleasure for me to keep up with friends via their blogs while they were far away, and it made it so easy once they returned — I already knew quite a lot about where they had been and what they had been doing. It’s my hope that if you decide to check in on my blog, you will find the same fun! It is also my hope that I will be able to share with you my experience in a region whose devastation we hear much about but often can’t personalize. I will not have daily computer access, so I will post when I can — probably about once or twice a week. Please comment or write so I can keep up with you, too! I know that it will be hard to be so far away from friends and family for this short-extended time, but know that you will be near in spirit.
Wishing you each a happy and peaceful new year,
Aimee
