Did you notice the homage to Powers of 10 in the Vaseline Intensive Rescue Lotion commercial? Excellent. While watching CBS Sunday Morning, I saw a commercial for Vaseline Intensive Rescue Body Lotion with an obvious homage to Charles and Ray Eames. I am blissed out.
The commercial fetishes a sea of jazz hands as analogy for dry and moist skin. As the camera pulls away from the dancing, interlocking hands, the hands transition to the moist skin of a woman’s shoulder.
As the camera pulls back further, the woman is lying with a man, having a picnic, on a blanket, in a park, an homage to Charles and Ray Eames’ Powers of 10 documentary film.
Kudos to Vaseline and their ad agency or record for the wink to us, I for one really appreciate it.
