Getting Started with TypePad

In addition to my 90-minute TypePad video tutorial, TypePad has a list of the ten simple steps that you can follow to get the most out of your TypePad blog.

  1. Get started in private. While you’re customizing your design and writing your first few posts, you might want to protect it from prying eyes.
  2. Customize your design. Your blog’s design should reflect who you are, and TypePad makes it easy to customize the look and feel of your blog.
  3. Point your own domain to your blog. Whlie many bloggers love having typepad.com in their URL, we make it easy to point your own domain to your blog.
  4. Draft a simple blogging policy. Not everyone will need one, but if your business has several blogs, or several authors contributing to one blog, you might want to draft even a simple blogging policy.
  5. Set your feedback preferences. Blogs are great ways to hold conversations with your readers, and TypePad gives you powerful tools to manage that conversation.
  6. Let the world know about your blog. Once you’re ready, it’s time to let the world know your blog exists. And TypePad makes it easy to get your blog noticed.
  7. Post early, post often. The number one way to grow your audience is to post frequently. Blogging has an inertia to it — the more you blog, the more you find occasions and reasons to blog.
  8. Spice it up with photos. A common misconception is that you have to be a great writer to have a great blog. With TypePad’s integrated photo management, you can let your photos do the talking.
  9. Get rich with audio and video. Being an amateur (or even semi-professional) video or radio star is easier than ever, and TypePad’s the perfect place to bring your rich content to your readers.
  10. Track your success. Once you’re up and running, you’re going to want to know just how many people your blog is reaching, and what they think about it.
