Poet Laureate Donald Rumsfeld Resigns

According to the Post, “Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign after six years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday;” according to the Tribune, “Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday;” and, according to the Times, “Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, agrees to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, President Bush announced today. Robert Gates, former head of the C.I.A., will be nominated as his replacement.”

That’s what I figgered Bush’s “significant announcement” would be.
