The Car Boot Chronicles

This morning I blearily ambled to my car, a do no move sign shoved under the driver’s side windshield whiper blade, and a bright orange boot clamped to my left front tire. Thus begins the Car Boot Chronicles.

I have been dutifully riding my bike to work every day and it seems my car registration lapsed. I sent the check in, but apparently I got another ticket between sending the check and having it received by DC DMV. Instead of using the check to pay down the tickets, it just sent the check back to me, uncashed.

I intended to get around to it this weekend and it looked like I would get the timing right and head down there Saturday morning.

Whoops!

My next steps in this dance with DC DMV will either be effortless or you are bound to be endlessly entertained. I am, of course, late for work and on the metro, also a fine choice.

The irony that last night I got spontaneously grateful and spent some good “as I lay me down to sleep” prayer time, really very thankful. Jinx!

So, now as I stand on a metro car that has spontaneously become sardine-packed, I have to laugh. Such is life.

Of course, I don’t need my car today, I have a trillion-dollar metro system a mere ten minutes walk away from my door. No clients to pick up at the airport, no big client meeting, no organs to deliver within hours, no babies to deliver or hearts to restart, no disappointed wife tap tap tapping her watch as I miss our child’s recital (wait, that’s too bad), and nobody really got hurt in the making of this film.

Amen.
