Hell, the battery still gives me a good 4-5 hours of play time. My wife has a 4G that made through 8 months of Iraq.

I have a 3G iPod (four individual buttons) and it works fine. The pound-pound-pound can be murder on the hard drive.

Beware, one of the reasons your iPod is going flaky could be those runs you take it on. At the worst, they'll just give you a replacement iPod. That happened to my very first one, the original first generation 5 gig ipod with the mechanical scroll wheel. I think it stopped accepting clicks. Anyway, I called it in, they shipped me a new one in a few days.Granted, being iPod-less is no fun, but I mean, things sometimes break - that's the whole reason for the warranty.

Well, it doesn’t make any sense for them to last only six months because the warranty is a year.
