While reading my FT this AM I came across the epitome of the true renaissance man, Sir Peter Smithers. Sir Peter Smithers “was not only a spy but a politician, a barrister, a diplomat who headed the Council of Europe, one of the 20th century’s great gardeners,” friend to Ian Flemming and “the man who inspired the James Bond.” Yes, there are men and women like him in the world, thank God.
Smithers, Sir Peter Smithers, 007, is the Real James Bond
