“Stop talking about your novel or short story ideas and start writing.”
Excellent advice for writers and for men and women who want to make, who want to create, who want to write, and who want to give actual birth to a novel.
Really bad advice for the man or woman who uses “I am writing a novel/screenplay” to get laid.
Yes, writing is hard, lonely, work. Being a “writer” is easier because you can hang out with people and go to reading and have sex (with actual people).
That said, here’s the advice again, in longer form, “Stop talking about your novel or short story ideas and start writing. Get in the habit of writing for at least an hour every day, no matter what. One strategy is to get up an hour earlier than you have to, make yourself a cup of coffee and completely focus on your writing.”

(A co-worker asked my why in God’s name I was sending her an email at midnight on Friday last and my response was, I oftentimes choose writing and blogging over going out to Local 16 or Reef on the weekends. It’s true!)
