You have to hand it to Pop Secret for their What Is Your Pop Secret Pop Secret Films Indie Films Website. Why? Well, in my article, Effective PR Blogging, I say that in order to really impress your visitors and your customers and your potential consumers, you have to give more than you take. To the community, to the people who are natural consumers anyway, and you also have to give back a little.
Popcorn and movies go together like — er — movies and popcorn.
So, it seems like an obvious idea to me that since lots of moviegoing has been relegated to DVDs and online broadband streaming video, the popcorn needs to find its way there too.
So, Pop Secret is giving more than it takes by giving a funny little forum for indie film makers to create funny, kookie, random, poignant, oddball, and creative interpretations of popcorn in general and Pop Secret in particular.
When you do that kind of advertising and branding and selling in such a transparent, open, and “right out there” way you easily get buy-in from your online audience — from Pop Secret’s current, past, and future customers.
That a corporation can be “in on the gag” and even the “target of humor” shows a lot of trust and faith in their visitors.
It seems to me like Pop Secret understands that at the end of the day, the cheeky and snarky Generation X and Y (and Z) kids are going to laugh with Pop Secret and not at them.
Kudos.
