Upgrading to Movable Type 3.2 Was a Cinch

It’s was snap to upgrade from Movable Type 3.15 to Movable Type 3.2!

I was really scared to do the upgrade even though there are sundry anti-comment spam and anti-trackback spam tools built into the new version.

I was scared because I didn’t want any downtime at all. I was concerned that dealing with templates and settings and permissions was going to be as much of a pain in the ass as Movable Type 3.15 was to install and upgrade. Upgrading from 3.11 to 3.15 was a pain and so I was “once bitten twice shy.”

I mean, what could be as easy as the WordPress installation and WordPress upgrades?

Well, installing and upgrading Movable Type was so easy.

Just make sure you follow these important upgrade suggestions:

* Prepare to upgrade by backing up your Movable Type data

* Check the mt.cfg file settings to make sure they’re still correct, and move them to the new mt-config.cgi file, if desired

* Upload the new version of Movable Type on top of the old installation

* Log in to your new version of Movable Type to complete the upgrade

Then just make sure you change your permissions on all the .cgi files to 755:

$chmod 755 *.cgi

And login to your site: http://www.yoursite.com/mt.cgi

And it will upgrade everything for you, bring you up-to-date, and port over your current setting.

It seems as easy as that.

And all the amazing anti-comment spam and anti-trackback spam tools! Built in.

So, not Chris Abraham – Because the Medium is the Message web site is not armored against comment spam and ping trackback spam.

And now I can stop apologizing to all of my readers and commenters now that I have dug myself out from under the thousands of moderated comment spam that had been oppressing me.
