Dating is the New Single

by Chris Abraham on 06/02/2006 ·

My friend Dae misread my Divorced is the New Single as “Dating is the New Single” and I am stealing it from her.

I think that the concept of dating has lost any and all of its “courtship” meaning — and the people who are dating, both the men and the women, don’t consider themselves “suitors.”

When you say that you are looking to date women (or men), you are actually euphemistically saying that you are interested in meeting new women (and men) and spending casual time with them, which includes all sorts of potential lemming sex.

I was going to add that this was formerly known as “dating is the new casual dating” but to tell you the truth, what’s the use?

What is the term now that doesn’t make someone feel too pathetic or needy with the meaning of, “I am open to meeting someone who is seriously interested in pursuing a meaningful intimate, committed, relationship, with the ultimate goal of getting engaged, married, and having pink little babies together?”

Wow, we’re jaded in this popular culture because although I was being honest and earnest in writing that and even I vomited in my mouth writing that.

Egad.
