The Washington DC Winter Olympic Curling Team

DCteamSM thumb The Washington DC Winter Olympic Curling Team“As you may know, the District of Columbia is not part of the 50 states that make up the United States.”

“The citizens of the District of Columbia only have the same representation in the United States Congress as other American territories such as Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. The International Olympic Committee has recognized the Olympic committees of these other territories under control of the U.S. Government. I am writing today to ask that you consider the same course of action for the District of Columbia.”

Press Release:

Folks, I’m happy to announce the launch of a new effort I’m helping out with:

“The Washington DC Winter Olympic Curling Team”

http://www.DCOlympicTeam.org

The full story is on the site, but In a nutshell:

- We are protesting the lack of Congressional representation in DC by demanding a team (hey, Puerto Rico and Guam have them why not us?)

- We really ARE curling (check out the photos).

- We really DO have a team, even with athletically appropriate nicknames (I am John “Curls Gone Wild” Hlinko).

- We have launched a letter writing campaign to the International Olympic Committee, asking them to let us go to Torino.

- And… we even have a sponsor! Labatt Beer.
