Glory Road is a Glorious Road

gloryRoad.jpgMy buddy David and I caught an advanced showing of Glory Road. By midway through the film, everyone was applauding during all the games.

We were, en masse, swept away by the film. I highly recommend it even for folks who don’t do sports, like me.

The coolest thing about Glory Road is that while the first part of the movie is white-owned, the movie evolves into a black-owned and black-empowered story.

I have never seen a movie that has been able to pull of dual-ownership. Some very sensitive race and intolerance issues were dealt with very well and with great sensitiveity while avoding Harvardesque policital correctness — maybe because the movie needs to appeal to more practical jocks.

The story is based upon the Dan Wetzel book Glory Road: My Story of the 1966 NCAA Basketball Championship and How One Team Triumphed Against the Odds.

By the end of the well-acted and well-lit movie I turned to David and told him, “I am totally going to buy the DVD.”
