“Sprint Nextel Corp. said Monday it will acquire Alamosa Holdings Inc., its largest Sprint-branded wireless affiliate, for $3.4 billion.” It is my belief that all of this consolidation is being done for shareholder benefit and not for our benefit. Via Washington Post.
Consolidation always means less competition and less competition means the ability to jack prices. Truth be told, fewer people switch cellular providers than you think. Think back to your own usage. I have had T-Mobile for years and my friends with Sprint both hate Sprint but consider changing to be more trouble than its worth. People are way too invested. In the world of service providers, its better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.
