If you would like to have the Google Site Map on your blog, it is super easy using Movable Type of WordPress.

For Movable Type, go into your Templates and “Create new index template.” Call it whatever you want but have the output go to sitemap.xml. Then, you need to paste the code into the text box, then rebuild.

Then you will need to the Google SiteMap site and make sure you add your url: www.yourURL.com/sitemap.xml and then when Google gives you a unique file name, then you can go into the “Create new index template” and create a template with the output name Google gives you in order to verify the site.

For WordPress, you need to upload the WordPress plugin to your site, making sure that you pop it into your wp-content/plugins/ folder and then make sure you create writeable pages at the root level of your WP install and call them sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz:

== Installation ==
1. Upload the full directory into your wp-content/plugins directory
2. Make your blog directory writeable OR create two files called sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and make them writeable via CHMOD In most cases, your blog directory is already writeable.
2. Activate it in the Plugin options
3. Edit or publish a post or click on Rebuild Sitemap on the Sitemap Administration Interface
