Capote

Cheryl and I saw Capote last Friday in Dupont. Fantastic movie. Official Site.

“In November, 1959, Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a favorite figure in what is soon to be known as the Jet Set, reads an article on a back page of the New York Times.”

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, & Clifton Collins come together in a very intimate, masterfully-acted, film.

The cinematography is what makes the film: a gold standard example of how depth-of-field, shadow, light, and a well-chosen focal point can tell as story as well as Oscar-winning performances.

I honestly didn’t know anything about Truman Capote, even though I received my degree in American Literature but I do feel compelled to read In Cold Blood for sure.
