Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade to Aid the People of Honduras

by Chris Abraham on 24/10/2005 ·

Dr. Wendy Gottlieb will be joining the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade on a medical mission trip to Comayagua, Honduras, from November 5-12, 2005, in order to volunteer her services as a reconstructive surgeon as part of a sixty-five member volunteer medical team.

The sixty-five member Virginia Hospital Brigade is now planning and organizing a sixth medical mission trip to Comayagua, Honduras, on November 5-12, 2005. As in the past years, they will be bringing primary care, surgical, eye care, and physical therapy teams to this underserved part of the world. Each year the number of patients served has grown, and therefore the need for resources (both human and financial) has increased.

From the official web site:

HONDURAN MEDICAL BRIGADE

Comayagua, Honduras: November 5-12, 2005

Last year, the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade volunteers set up clinics in schools around the poverty stricken neighborhood of La Ceiba. Over the course of five days, teams of physicians, nurses, physical therapists, eye care professionals and other volunteers provided care to over 6,500 patients in the clinics. The surgical team performed 66 surgeries. And more than $600,000 worth of medical supplies and medication were distributed to needy children, adults and the elderly.

The Washington Post article of 12/17/04 is an excellent source of more information.
