When it comes to backfiring, sophisticated, nuanced, intellectual irony — saying exactly what you don’t mean — always backfires.

From the inception of 1984 to last year’s unsuccessful 2+2=5 meme, Orwellian irony never works.

Case in point is the Students for an Orwellian Society (SOS). Too nuanced, too subtle, too sophisticated, and too intellectual equals completely ineffective.

We’re Americans!

Sophistication, Nuance, Intellectualism, and Irony is Un-American.

Go back to France, to England, even to Canada if you want to be subtle and snarky.
