Although I support teaching abstinence in schools, I also support the teaching of safe sex. A realistic sexual education curriculum requires both. Abstinence only education does violate our civil rights.
More education about sex, sexuality, responsibility, and relationships can only be good. The idea is to control the message, to own the message; otherwise, our children will learn about sex, sexuality, and babies first-hand.
I had an amazing biology professor in high school and he taught us everything, including how to place a diaphram, how to correctly use a condom, about the woman’s cycle, and a whole host of other physiological and emotional issues with regards the feelings in our bodies and our loins.
And he mentored us and he talked about relationships. And, once my all boys Catholic school realized what he was up to, they made him a guidance counsellor instead. What a pity.
The level of naivete suggested in an abstinence only curriculum is dangerous and inauthentic.

I saw your comment on blogs for Bush. Good effort, and I agree with you, but those people are freaks. Trying to talk to them like they are rational people is almost as productive as banging your head against a wall. Their attitudes toward sex and women are just creepy.
