Google is angry at CNET for suggesting that our Google is just the tip of the iceberg. Via Threadwatch, Slashdot, and CNET.
The gist is that although Google might share the biggest and baddest online search engine index with us users for free, information that is not just informational but can be personally revealing and oftentimes private, the index is only the tip of the iceberg.
If a quick Google reveals more about you than you’re comfortable with, imagine the all the “information Google collects and doesn’t make public.”
From the article, “The fear, of course, is that hackers, zealous government investigators, or even a Google insider who falls short of the company’s ethics standards could abuse that information. Google, some worry, is amassing a tempting record of personal information, and the onus is on the Mountain View, Calif., company to keep that information under wraps.”
