Continuing my series on dating DC Guys and DC Girls, it all comes down to the FWB, also known as the “insurance policy.”
I shared a beer last night with a friend who admitted to me that she too fears cancelling her “insurance policies” as much as any guy I know.
FWB insurance helps us Washingtonians, DG Guys and DC Girls, all feel safer, stable, secure, wanted, and less lonely. Even though we are all “just looking for Mr. or Miss Right,” we are actually doing ourselves a disservice with these half-measures.
My friend, who is objectively a really very beautiful Washingtonian, put it like this, “its like we DC men and women are holding a gun up to each other in a Mexican standoff, neither willing to be the first to put down their weapon,” and I agree wholeheartedly.
So, I really must edit DC Men and the Number One Wife some, “When dating a Washingtonian you can be sure he or she is dating – and sleeping with – other people even if you are already intimate. There is probably a friend with benefits in the picture. Rest assured, the FWB knows all about you.”
