Huan Hsu really really gets Janna.
I just finished the Washington City Paper article, The Church of Latter Day Singles, and have to say, bravo to writer Huan Hsu.
Janna and I are Very Dear Friends and I daresay Huan might know her better than I. Rather, he might get her better than I do. That said, I believe that the portrayal is amazingly balanced and powerful.
Although I am not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I feel like I understand the culture a lot more.
Huan was able to frame the discussion without letting the article become mocking, disrespectful, or insincere.
Only two people I know have what I call a beautiful Faith. One is my friend whose beautiful faith is expressed in the Roman Catholic Church.
The other is Janna. God is alive and present in her life. Real and powerful and not just rote or symbolic. I admire her relationship with God and her love for her church.
I especially admire that she hasn’t abandoned her church even though she is often frustrated.
