What BitTorrent Really is and Why Its Important

Piracy aside, BitTorrent is a phenomenal tool that is an exercise in paradox.


Traditional methods of large file distribution require that “the more popular the file, the slower the download” (from divying the bandwidth); BitTorrent’s architecture means that the more popular the file is the faster it downloads” — and more cheaply because every downloader becomes an active host (for bandwidth and storage).
