I took a sick day and am annointing myself with aloe. Man, that was one hell of a row. Man, that’s one hell of a sun.
I had an amazing row yesterday. It was also noon on a fiercely sun-saturated day. Two hours later, I was done. Dazzled, fatigued, and burned.
Changed at Verve, ran to the river from my office in Rosslyn, pushed off then realized how bright it was. I did remember to buy four bottled of water from the machine. Usually I row with two.
It was surely a four-bottle row.
Still, rowed for over two hours. A very strong row. A very brilliant and dazzling day. All dapple and kayakers. All blazing heat and tinfoil.
Tapped out by the time I made my approach to the dock. Shoulders slumped, head lowered.
Got to the shore, cleaned and put away Gerris, and then took a sad and pethetic nap crumpled under a tree.
Ran back to the office. Showered at Verve, and then retired to CVS for a huge bag of aloe and anti-burn sprays. Stopped for a Subway sub (tuna) and got home just in time to fall apart. Chills, etc.
I am okay now. Just staying home so that I can keep my shirt off. I am slimy with aloe gel. I am slimy and shivery and don’t regret a thing.
It was a groovy row, nonetheless, and Gerris is amazing. Do they make a sunscreen that is sturdy enough to deal with a seriously heavy and sweaty row?
