US U2 Spy Plane Crashes in South-West Asia

u2.jpgAccording to the BBC, “An American U-2 spy plane has crashed in south-west Asia, the US military has said without giving further details.”

U2s are very cool, over 40-years after they were comissioned, “The long, thin plane, with a wing-span of 100 feet (30.5m) is able to cruise at 90,000ft (27,430m) – more than 17 miles (27km) up – so high that the pilot has to wear a spacesuit.”

Also, “Central Command gave no details of the plane’s mission, and said the cause of the crash and the condition of the pilot were currently unknown. ‘The specific location is not releasable due to host nation sensitivities,’ US Air Force Capt David W Small, a Central Command spokesman, told the news agency.”

Chris, I just wanted to say that these U-2 pilots are some of the greatest people that there are. I had the priviledge of working side by side with them and working with them in the UAE. Out of my 6 years with the Air Force there is not another squadron I would rather have supported than the
U-2. I miss this squadron dearly. I felt as if a family member of my own has past away. I send my love and dedication to these men and women. God Bless them. They get the job done and do what it takes to keep us safe while way up high close to the heavens.
