What is a Trackback and Trackbacks?

by Chris Abraham on 17/06/2005 ·

According to Saugus, “TrackBacks essentially provide a means whereby different web sites can post messages to one another not just to inform each other about citations, but also to alert one another of related resources. Typically, a blog may display quotations from another blog through the use of TrackBacks.”

Wikipedia adds, “TrackBack is a system implemented by many blogging tools, including Movable Type and WordPress, that allows a blogger to see who has seen the original post and has written another entry concerning it. The system works by sending a ‘ping’ between the blogs, and therefore providing the alert.”
