March is National Caffeine Awareness Month

bodum thumb March is National Caffeine Awareness MonthI drink a lot of coffee. I love coffee a lot. Not only do I own a fantastic espresso maker but I own several French presses and a weathered Dama Bialetti. I love coffee. I love it the most because “caffeine is habit forming and addicting.”

The gang at Fark alerted me that Local10 News has picked up yet another press release from yet another nonprofit organization. The short of it, too much coffee “may have some physical and mental consequences.”

The long of it is, “According to the nonprofit organization Caffeine Awareness Alliance, caffeine can cause heart disease, cancer of the pancreas and bladder. Other health risks include central nervous system disorders and hypoglycemia.”

I know a very cute doctoral student in clinical psychology who lets me know that some people have such a sensitivity to the bean that they easily develop caffeine intoxication syndrome. “Coffee drinkers should watch out for Caffeine Intoxication Syndrome, an onset of anxiety, panic, headaches and a frustrating inability to sleep. Most people would have to drink about 10 cups to fall into this condition, but some are so sensitive that it can hit them after only 2 to 3 cups,” as shared from the Dangers of Cramming. Here are some additional compelling symtoms care of Caffeination: the pros and cons of our favourite stimulant, “restlessness, nervousness, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the cheeks, diuresis, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, disordered thought and speech, tachycardia (increased heart rate), cardiac arrhythmia and periods of inexhaustibility.”

So, coffee — and caffeine — is really really bad for you. So, please send all of your coffee and coffee accoutrements, especially if that includes a La Pavoni espresso maker to:
