Do what you love

“To be successful it is essential to do what you love and follow your passion.”

From my very first weekend back in Charleston, New Years, 2001, I have been hearing the same thing again and again.

“To be successful it is essential to do what you love and follow your passion.”

Sometimes someone will add, “and the money will follow,” and then someone else will add, “and sometimes it won’t, but that’s not the point.”

Another couple trite lessons learned that are absolutely true — and a synthesis of everything I have learned in my four years coming to these family weekend:

It is not about the money. My prime reason for doing what I do is not about making money, its about doing something, and doing something I’m not passionate about won’t fuel me through life’s challenges to where I need to be to truly be successful.

Sounds like tired advice, doesn’t it? Well its not and every participant has echoed this over and over and I have finally dropped my waning resistance.

Today, 18 February, 2004, I am going to fully take it to heart.
